Codec - a special computer program that performs the transformation of data stream or signal for their subsequent use. Codecs can both stream and encode the signal (for the transmission, storage or encryption), and decode - to view or change the format more appropriate for these operations.
Each codec uses its - or the original, or a specific data compression algorithms, and usually not compatible with the data that has been compressed by another codec. Codecs are often used in digital processing of video and audio.
Most codecs are installed on personal computers to play video or audio files by using multimedia. There are also players that have already built some of the codecs, which allows problems to see almost all formats of audio and video.
